State School Nurse Consultant COVID-19 Pandemic Leadership Roles that Crosswalk Education

Tammy Diaz | Published on 5/16/2025
A new study in the *Journal of Advanced Nursing* highlights the critical, often hidden role of State School Nurse Consultants (SSNCs) during COVID-19 and how their expertise is vital in managing measles outbreaks. SSNCs bridge public health and education, translating guidance into school policy, supporting frontline nurses, and ensuring consistent communication. The study calls for stronger health-education infrastructure, mental health support for nurses, and formal recognition of SSNCs as key public health leaders. Their work reduces confusion, duplication, and risk, ensuring students’ health and safety remain a top priority.
